I recently had a request to create a small set of Gruffalo cookies. It seemed fairly obvious that I should handpaint the designs after the illustrations for the book, but I wanted to make them a little different, or original somehow.

How to make royal icing eyes for Anna from Frozen and other Disney Princesses
I've been meaning to make some more eyes for ages. I use these for most of my character faces as it makes life a lot easier to have a ready made eye around which you pipe the face. If you have some spare white, black and blue/brown icing it's worth making some to store away for future use.

A Tale of Woe and Some New Winter Cookies
So I'm sitting here at 1am eating raw cookie dough.
I decided, very sensibly, to use the pyrolitic cleaning function of my oven overnight, and turn it on just before I went to bed so that it's not out of use during the day. I took the racks out and started fiddling with the dials, but couldn't work out how to get the cleaning cycle on.

Olaf from Frozen Cookie Tutorial
This is the first of several posts showing how I make cookies with characters from Disney's Frozen. These were party favours of Olaf's face. The second part features Princesses Anna and Elsa cookies and this later post is a tutorial for creating royal icing eyes.
To start with I flooded the cookies with a cool blue colour, and while still wet, sprayed with silver from a low angle, so that the sheen was off set. I've been using hexagons for these sorts of cookies a lot as I love the shape and how they fit together, and straight sided shapes are a lot easier to outline and flood than circles.
